Overview of Rx Section

Why Use the Prescriptions Section?

The Rx section is the central place to create, manage, and track patient prescriptions. It allows providers to ensure accurate medication management by supporting prescription history, refill scheduling, auto ordering, and quick access to patient conditions and allergies. This helps reduce errors, streamline workflows, and improve continuity of care.


How to Access and Use the Rx Section

  1. Open the Patient’s Chart

    • From the Patients tab, select the desired patient.

  2. Navigate to Prescriptions

    • In the patient menu, click the 💊 Rx (Prescriptions) icon.


Sub-Tabs Overview

  • Prescriptions – Active and draft orders.

  • Scheduled Orders – Prescriptions set to start in the future.

  • History – Record of completed or stopped prescriptions.

  • Pending Orders – Orders awaiting confirmation, payment, or next action.


Creating a Prescription

  1. Click Create Prescription.

  2. Fill in details:

    • Pharmacy

    • Prescriber

    • Medication name & form

    • SIG (structured instructions)

    • Quantity, unit, refills

    • Dispense type (One Time, Auto Order, On Demand)

    • Shipping address

    • Patient conditions & allergies (auto linked for safety checks)

  3. Save as Draft or Create Prescription to activate.


Prescription Statuses

  • Draft – Created but not finalized.

  • Active – Approved and ongoing.

  • Scheduled – Future start date.

  • Completed – Fully dispensed and closed.

  • Stopped – Halted manually.


Dispense Types

  • One Time – Dispensed once only.

  • Auto Order – Automatically refilled at chosen intervals.

  • On Demand – Dispensed manually as needed.


Key Actions Available

  • Show details – View full prescription info.

  • Edit – Modify prescription details.

  • Stop – Halt an active order.

  • Complete – Mark prescription as fulfilled.

  • Discard – Delete a draft order.

  • Resubmit – Re-trigger a failed/expired order (history or pending).


Best Practices & Tips

  • Always check patient conditions and allergies before finalizing a prescription to prevent adverse interactions.

  • Use Auto Order for long-term medications to reduce administrative work and improve adherence.

  • Review Pending Orders daily to resolve payment or processing delays quickly.

  • Document clearly in the SIG section to avoid misinterpretations by pharmacies.

  • Regularly audit the History tab to maintain compliance and ensure prescription accuracy.
